On a recent cool evening, passersby of our old shop might have noticed a crowd of some hundred folk pressed into the space, covering the floor, congregating on the balcony.
The occasion was an intimate show by Lincoln, Nebraska native, Joshua James. He's a friend of a friend of the shop, and when we heard ages ago that he was looking for a non-conventional venue in which to meet his fans on the San Francisco leg of his tour, we offered our brick and mortar.
That's what it was: not just a show, but a meeting. A cough from the back could be heard on the stage. The crowd of friends that gathered was warm and chatty, but then were spellbound, breathless, as James guided them through his emotionally captivating set.
